Valsad HDFC Bank Deputy Manager Vinay Merai cheated 11 customers by withdrawing Rs 57.49 laks from the bank through self-checks. When the bank came to know, the manager filed a police complaint against him. A case was filed against him in the civil court. Civil Judge B V Vyas has found Vinay guilty in this case and sentenced him to 7 years rigorous imprisonment.
Valsad Halar Road HDFC Bank branch account holder Pravin Natwarlal had gone here to take a loan on his fixed deposit. 41 of whom COD (Confirmation of Deposit) receipt did not match with the bank. He was made a false COD by the bank employee. His personal banker Vinay Merai (Resident of Dharampur Kumbhar Wad) took self checks and made false COD. When the manager of the bank called Vinay in the presence of Pravinbhai, he accepted it. Vinay also promised to return the money, but he did not give the money. A few days after this incident, Vinay stopped coming to the bank and switched off his mobile phone. So Bank Manager Gaurav Patel filed a complaint against him at Valsad City Police Station. Vinay Marai was also arrested after this complaint. A case was filed against him in Valsad Civil Court. While conducting the hearing, the judge sentenced Vinay Merai to 7 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Also, if he does not pay the fine, he was sentenced to another 6 months imprisonment.
